Ductwork connects to a wider set of components. Planning the interfaces early helps the project team identify missing items, space constraints and questions that need a design decision before procurement.
01 — Follow the air path
Review the system drawing from equipment to each terminal or outlet. Record the components shown along the route without assuming that every application needs the same arrangement.
- List specified dampers, sound attenuators, VAV terminals and air outlets.
- Identify flexible duct, connectors, louvers and other scheduled accessories.
- Link each component to its system, location and drawing reference.
02 — Coordinate the interfaces
Components need more than matching product names. Ask the design and installation teams to check sizes, connection arrangements and the space needed to install, operate and maintain the specified equipment.
- Record inlet and outlet sizes, shapes and orientation where defined.
- Reference control, actuator and access requirements from approved design information.
- Check insulation continuity, finishes and associated accessories with the project team.
03 — Check scope and responsibilities
A complete schedule makes it clear which items are being requested and which are supplied or specified elsewhere. This is particularly useful where several trades meet at the same interface.
- Identify who confirms dimensions, controls, supports and installation details.
- Distinguish balancing and non-return functions from fire-safety requirements in the specification.
- Ask the project designer to resolve missing or conflicting information before ordering.
